Reducing our footprint through our zero-loss approach

Climate action

While vulnerable to climate change impacts, global agri-food systems are also significant emissions contributors. We’re taking bold action, committing to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and to reducing company-wide emissions.

Circular solutions

To tackle pressing environmental issues, we are optimising our material use, eliminating waste, minimising resource consumption and innovating our packaging for recyclability. Sustainable agriculture

Sustainable agricultural

practices are key to nurturing resilient, responsible and productive supply chains. We are working with farmers to find better ways of growing crops – that are good for the farmer and for the planet.

Key goals

50 %

fewer CO2 emissions (Scope 1/2) by 2025 (base year 2010)

20 %

less water consumption by 2025 (base year 2018)

10 %

less non-edible waste by 2025 (base year 2018)

Intersnack's

Packaging Pledge

We are committed to:

  • Reduce our packaging material consumption by 15% by 2025 (compared to our 2014 baseline).
  • Achieve 100% recyclability of plastic packaging for consumers by 2025.
  • Actively engage in partnerships and initiatives to improve waste collection, sorting and recycling infrastructure.
  • Use 20% recycled material in our plastic packaging by 2030 (when it becomes commercially available and functionality can be guaranteed).

These are ambitious targets and we are proud to report that we have already achieved an 11% reduction by the end of 2022.

Climate targets

approved by SBTi

We have joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) - a global alliance of more than 7,000 organizations. This enables us to set emission reduction targets based on scientific findings.

Recovery and recycling

We are proud of having succeeded in reducing food waste in our production to 0%. In 2020, all our edible residual products were recycled, for example, to produce animal feed. This gives a second life to residual materials that don't make it into the bag. Moreover, at our plant in Wevelinghoven, we recycle process water and vegetable residues from production directly on site. We can reuse filtered water in the production process. From the organic waste, such as potato peels, we produce climate-friendly biogas , which we then likewise use again to produce our snacks.
